BEACHES OF KERALA
Kovalam Beach -
Just about 16 km from the capital city of Kerala state,
Thiruvanantha-puram (Trivandrum) lies the internationally
renowned beach Kovalam with three adjacent crescent
beaches. And yes, if you want to get a tan fast, this
is the most ideal place for you under the tropical sun.
The sea water here is very clean and calm and thus ideal
for sea bathing.
The leisure options at this beach are plenty which includes
sunbathing, herbal body toning massage, swimming, catarman
cruising etc. Special cultural programmes are also arranged
for the tourists. Life on this beach lingers late into
the night.
Hotels on the beach especially that owned by Indian
Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) have Ayurvedic
Health Resorts, Yoga and Ayurvedic massage centers etc.
All this and its vicinity to Thiruvananthapuram International
Airport has made this beach a favourite haunt of tourists,
especially Europeans, since the 1930s.
Varkala Beach -
It is about 51 km north of Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum)
and is a calm and quite hamlet. Varkala beach is very
serene and is worth visiting. A 2000 years old Lord
Vishnu temple and the ashramam is situated at a little
distance from Varkala beach.
Varkala offers excellent accommodation facilities and
is fast becoming a popular health resort with Ayurvedicmassage
centres.
Marari Beach -
This beach is situated about 90 km from Cochin International
Airport, 60 km from Cochin City, 12 km from Alleppey.
Marari offers endless miles of superb sand beaches backed
by swaying palms, virgin territory where you can experience
the local charm and traditional Kerala Hospitality at
its best.
As the beach is near to the backwaters of Allepey one
can get both the experiences. Visit to Cochin can also
be given from this place. Good resorts and Ayurvedic
Health centres have come up here for the comfort of
the tourists.
