TIPS ON TRAVELING IN INDIA

General Tips -
- Make photocopies of all travel documents, credit cards and traveler cheques you are carrying to India.
- Exchange your money always at Banks or Official moneychangers.
- Discourage beggars and as far as possible do not open your luggage in crowded places. Never leave a suitcase unlocked in a hotel room or unattended on airports, trains etc.
- Although India is a relatively safer place but it is advisable for women traveling alone to avoid going out after dark.
- Avoid getting over-friendly with strangers specially on a train or bus.
- Carry proper maps.
- Be alert of pickpockets. Wear a money belt.
- Be careful while using the credit cards.

Tips on arrival -
- At Airports carts are available to carry your luggage by yourself, if you wish.
- At Railway stations & bus stops get your entire luggage at a point and then ask any porter to carry it. Do not allow anyone to quickly move off your luggage.
- Most taxis and surface transportation can be arranged through counters inside the airports.
- You can exchange some money immediately at Banks located inside the International Airports.

Lost Passport -
- Foreign tourists should file a complaint with the local police regarding loss of passport.
- After getting the new travel documents one should approach for grant of visa/exit permits

Lost Baggage -
- Is baggage is mishandled or lost in transit, a certificate to that effect must be obtained from the
- airlines and have it countersigned by the customs.

Health Tips - Before you start -
- As preventive measure vaccination against Hepatitis B is recommended if the stay is for longer period.
- Citizen & travelers coming from the United States, UK or Canada do not require any vaccination certificate.
- If the foreign tourists are originating or transiting through Yellow Fever endemic countries, they should posses Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate conforming to IHR.

Precautionary Measures in India
-
- Drink only mineral water or boiled water. Whenever going out carry bottle of mineral water.
- A first aid kit carrying water purification tablets, antibiotics, antiseptic creams, mosquito repellants, thermometers, adhesive bandages is advisable.
- At eating joints stick to cooked vegetarian diets.
- Avoid pork products, fried foods from vendors and dishes using excessive oil.
