WATER SPORTS IN INDIA

India has a vast 3000 kilometer coastline, with two
very pretty and distinctive island territory namely
- Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep Islands.
The rapids of snow - fed rivers emerging from the icy
heights of the Himalayas add to its splendors.
The above geographical advantages has
made India an adventure tourism destination of the world,
providing both variety and fun at prices that are most
competitive. The facilities are comparable to the best
in the world and the diversity is bewildering. As an
adventure tourism destination or adventure sports destination,
India has immense scope in water sports like white water
rafting, scuba diving, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing,
yatching and a host of other water adventure sports.
White water rafting -
The mighty rivers emerging from the Himalayas, fed
by innumerable streams, race along torturous boulders-strewn
beds, cutting deep gorges breaks into silvery white
rapids. These rivers flow through an amazing landscape
of thrilling gorges, forests and remote villages in
the Garhwal and Kumaon hills of the Himalayas and provide
ideal settings for some dramatic water adventure tours
in India.

Just off the coast about 400km from
Kerala are the widely scattered group of coral Islands
- 36 of them - collectively known as Lakshadweep. Lakshadweep
Islands are located in the Arabian Sea between 8 and
12 degrees north latitude and between 71 and 74 degree
longitude. It has a tropical climate (Summer 22 to 35
degree C and winter 22 to 32 degree C). Out of the 36
islands only 10 are inhabited and out of these 10 only
4 islands namely Kalpeni, Kavaratti, Minicoy and Kadamat
are open for domestic tourists. Only 2 islands - Kadamat
and Bangaram are open for foreign tourists.
Bangaram Islands - Bangaram
is an unhabited island, a full 48 hectares of lush green
coconut grove surrounded by 60 square km of blue lagoon
abundant in marine flora and fauna.
