Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary -

Also a National Park and Tiger Reserve, this unique unique wildlife sanctuary is situated in the Western Ghat ( West Coast) in the state of Kerala.

Location - This sanctuary is located in Kumily town well connected to Kottayam and Ernakulum in Kerala covering an area of about 778-sq-kms. Cochin city (Kochi) -200-kms and Madurai in Tamil Nadu-140-kms are the two nearest Airports.

Flora & Fauna - This place is full of thick deciduous forest. Animals like wild pigs, Sambar, Barking Deer etc. are found. Elephants and tigers can also be seen. Among the birds Kingfishers, the great Malabar, Hornbills are available. Periyar lake banks are famous for elephants, although it is a tiger reserve.

Wildlife Viewing - Boat cruise in the Periyar lake situated in the center of the sanctuary is the best option to witness the wild herd of elephants, sambar can be seen.

Best time to Visit - October to May.
